Laughing Rats - The Primal Emotional Systems: From Mammalian PLAY to Rat Laughter

Jaak Panksepp coined the term "affective neuroscience," describing the field that studies the neural mechanisms of emotion. He is widely known for his research on laughter in non-human animals, such as rats. In his talk he will discuss primal emotional systems against the background of his findings.



Jaak Panksepp, born in Tartu, Estonia is an American psychologist, a psychobiologist, and a neuroscientist. He is Emeritus Professor of the Department of Psychology at Bowling Green State University and currently the Baily Endowed Chair of Animal Well Being Science for the Department of Veterinary and Comparative Anatomy, Pharmacology, and Physiology at Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
