PhD „Languages of Emotion“

Curriculum

The course offerings of the Graduate School “Languages of Emotion” comprise seminars and workshops on actual problems, results and methods of scientific research in the different fields and disciplines of the Cluster. Seminars are designed to reflect and strengthen the interdisciplinary work of the Cluster. Three types of courses (notwithstanding those specific for a discipline) structure the program of the Graduate School “Languages of Emotion”:

  1. Courses specific for the Cluster. Three seminars will be offered during the first three semesters, which are canonic for the school. In the first year, one interdisciplinary course on methods and another on theories will be obligatory. At the beginning of the second year, this part of studies will be completed by another interdisciplinary seminar focusing on one of the Cluster’s main fields of research. All courses will be taught by scientists from at least two different disciplines joined by the Cluster. In general the seminars should facilitate interdisciplinary exchange and provide a basis for a better mutual understanding of the future scholars.
  2. The colloquium is dedicated to the discussion of the individual dissertation projects. It is headed by at least one responsible tutor.
  3. Transferable skills. These courses are offered in cooperation with the “Dahlem Research School” (DRS). They are meant to enhance scholarly competences such as time management, scientific writing, presentation techniques, didactic skills, and rhetoric refinement.
