Funding Options
The Cluster of Excellence Languages of Emotion offers both established scientists and scholars and young academics numerous possibilities to participate. Frequent advertisement offers financial funding and ideational support for prospective project leaders, graduates and post-graduates.This is effective for national and international applicants who work in one of the fields of emotional studies that are relevant for the cluster. Any individual applicant may apply for funding, including non-members of the participating universities and institutes (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Universität Potsdam, Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder, Max-Planck-Institutes in Berlin and Leipzig) or one of the other cooperating institutions.
Make use of the rare opportunity of a multidisciplinary cooperation between the humanities and the sciences and apply for either
- a full new project
- seed money for the development of a full project in the field of the cluster
- ideational support, or
- a graduate or post-doc stipend
With the exception of graduate stipends, applicants must hold at least a PhD. Graduate stipends are assigned to students with higher-than-average degrees.
Very generally it is expected that projects make use of the collaborating offers of our multidisciplinary cluster. Furtheron it is expected that new projects might not as well be applied for as regular DFG-Projects; this is a possible means of exclusion.
Further criteria for funding are, according to the ordinance of the cluster:
(a) the scholarly quality of the proposal,
(b) the expertise of the applicant,
(c) the prospective contribution to the research of the cluster and
(d) the amount of the proposed financial expenses and staff appropriations of the project.
The proceedings of the selection for funding accord with DFG standards. Any application is reviewed by two external consultants. The commission, which is initiated by the management committee of the cluster, finally selects proposals on the basis of both the consultants' opinions and internal advice.
