Workshop Empathy

Organizer: Isabel Dziobek, Dietmar Till
Location: Konferenzraum JK 33/121, Habelschwerdter Allee 45

The series aims at providing a platform for the collaboration of the cluster’s numerous empathy projects. It is, however, also open to all those who are merely interested in the topic. One important goal of the workshops will be the establishing of a characteristic profile of empathy research at the cluster.

Empathy workshops will be held monthly and will focus on discussing empathy concepts from various disciplinary perspectives; twice per semester, guest speakers will be invited.

The first workshop on February 11th will give attention to the term empathy and related constructs such as mimesis, mimicry etc., aiming at the development of a glossary and txonomy. We will seek to group the cluster’s empathy projects according to such taxonomy.

The following book chapters will be starting points for our discussion:

1. C. Daniel Batson: „These Things Called Empathy: Eight Related but Distinct Phenomena“. In John Decety/William Ickes (Ed.): „The Social Neuroscience of Empathy“, 2009, chapter 1.
2. (optional): Robin Curtis: „Einführung in die Einfühlung“. In Robin Curtis/Gertrud Koch (Ed.): „Einfühlung. Zur Geschichte und Gegenwart eines ästhetischen Konzepts“, 2009, chapter 1.

You can find copies of the chapters in the empathy workshop folder in the cluster pool folder.
