Walter Benjamin's stocking

A conference in Dahlem on the education of feelings through the ages

Sensual experiences encourage children's own awareness. Etching by Daniel Chodowiecki in: J.B. Basedow "Elementarwerk", ed. by Theodor Fritzsch. Leipzig 1909

A rolled up pair of stockings: For the philosopher, translator and literary critic Walter Benjamin it was this very thing hidden in his parents' dresser that made for his education of feelings.
